This July, Jim Moir presents The Norway Series — an extraordinary collection of original artworks painted during his time as artist-in-residence aboard a Fred. Olsen cruise ship travelling through the fjords and coastline of Norway.
Given the freedom to choose any destination, Jim selected Scandinavia — a place of gannets, skuas, towering cliffs and drifting cloud. Over the course of the voyage, he painted from life: from his cabin, on the deck, and with a sketchbook never far from hand. The result is a deeply personal collection full of motion, mystery, and moody light.
From the stark silhouette of Dolwin Epsilon to the high-soaring sweep of Gannet, North Sea, each piece was created en route. One, Wind Blowing Over Dover, was even shaped by the elements — hung from the ship’s railing as the wind left its own marks on the paper.
This is Jim painting in the moment — a series of fleeting impressions made permanent in paint.
A body of work unlike any he’s released before.
